Otoplasty
Prominent Ear Correction (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to bring forward-angled or prominent ears into a more harmonious, natural position with the face. With ear, nose and throat expertise, the structure of the ear is assessed as a whole.
What is otoplasty?
The shape of the ear cartilage and its angle to the head are reshaped while preserving the person's ear structure. The goal is for the ears to sit in natural harmony with the head without standing out. ENT expertise is an advantage in mastering ear anatomy.
Who may it be suitable for?
It may be considered in children (usually after the ears have completed their development) and in adults who are bothered by prominent or protruding ears. Suitability and timing are determined through an examination.
Approaches
Reshaping the cartilage and adjusting the ear's angle to the head is usually done through hidden incisions behind the ear; the scar is generally not visible. The technique to be used is planned according to the structure of the ear.
Recovery
A protective bandage or headband may be used in the first days. Most people return to daily life quickly; for activities such as sport, the time recommended by the doctor should be followed. The process varies by person and is explained during the examination.
