Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Open Technique Rhinoplasty
In the open technique, a small incision is made across the strip of skin between the nostrils (the columella), allowing the nasal structures to be worked on under direct vision.
What is it?
This is the method that lets the surgeon work while viewing the nasal structures directly. It may be preferred especially when detailed shaping of the nasal tip or complex corrections are needed.
Who is it suitable for?
It may be considered when noticeable shaping of the nasal tip, correction of asymmetry, or more extensive structural changes are needed. Suitability is determined during the examination.
How is it done?
Through the small incision on the columella, the skin is gently lifted and the cartilage and bone structures are brought to the planned shape. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia; the duration varies from nose to nose.
Recovery process
There may be swelling and bruising in the first few days. The splint/packing is usually removed within a week. Social recovery becomes apparent within a few weeks; the final result can take months to settle. The process varies from person to person.
FAQ
