Are Thicker and Oily Skinned Nose Surgeries More Difficult and More Troublesome?
The answer to this question is yes. Based on our experience, we can say that in some thick skinned noses, the skin is so rigid that it can stay in the air on the crotch roof that we have created after the surgery. What needs to be done for this is the strong positioning of the lower supports and the application of postoperative taping and splint.
Why Is Thick Skin Nose Tip Resistant to Change?
While it is possible to remove excess bone and cartilage structures in nasal aesthetics, it is not possible to remove excess skin in the nasal skin (although millimetric skin pieces are removed from the outer-lower part of the nose wings and the skin separating the nostrils to reduce the nostrils, they are very inadequate). In nose reduction surgery, the ability of the skin to recover in the long term is very important and has a serious effect on the result.
In thick skin, it is more difficult for the nasal skin to pull, that is, to recover itself. Again, due to the excessive work of the sebaceous glands located at the tip of the nose, the nasal tip skin may swell more. In some patients with thick nasal skin, swelling may remain in the nasal tip skin after a long recovery period. In these cases, local cortisone applications or the use of roacutane as a result of consultation from dermatologists may provide some thinning of the skin.
